Grand Unified Theory of Sport Performance

I have already spoke about Grand Unified Theory (GUT) in Random Thoughts on the New Frans Bosch Book and More blog post, but wanted to give this topic a bit more thought in this video.

My GUT is highly influenced with the recent paper by Paul Glazier (click HERE to read), but I expanded it a bit. The whole story revolves around “Rate-Limiter“, that is emergent phenomenon under constraints (Task, Organism and Environment). This make GUT model very scalable: from individual athlete, or even individual muscle, to the team level and even national level (i.e. talend ID and identification). It is pretty much a “fractal model”.

Dealing with Rate-Limiter involves utilizing two complementary aspects/processes: via Negative~via Positiva, and Substance~Form. It also involves knowing what is important and what can be changed (within constraints).

Another important aspect I cover are dealing with multiple different models and “being a fox instead of hedgehog”. We utilize different models when we deal with explaining Rate-Limiters, and it is important to be able to juggle with multiple models and hypothesis. The Agile Periodization comes to rescue here, and I cover this viewpoint in the video as well.
