Prescribing Strength Training for Team Sports – Part 4

In this video, I will discuss the Percent-Based Approach to prescription. There are a few major problems with it:

  • One needs to know individual 1RMs
  • Even if we know exercise 1RM, we do not know the Reps-Max Relationship
  • Even if we know these, how do we prescribe progressions?
  • How do we deal with day-to-day variability?

But I still believe that the percent-based approach is simple enough, if used smartly, to be a satisfactory solution in the real, complex world. It is still VERY useful as an estimate of the ballpark weights for the VBT and subjective approaches.
